Coyote

Standard

When she wanders

On and on,

One step at a time

Into the wilderness,

The emptiness disappears.

And she is filled with

Flowers and moss,

Berries and bark.

The wind speaking her native tongue in

Whispers to her soul.

Floating in the infinity of the veil.

The coyotes call to family bring her back,

Reminding her the sun is setting

And she slowly returns home to

Sweet slumber.

Another day is done.

Steady

Standard

I struggle to steady my mind

And I cannot find the breath to

Say i am tired,

And I cannot find the strength to

Reach for you.

My walls so high and mighty.

My fear steals my bones.

I’ve heard them whisper about me

Then turn and

Smile at me in the reflection in the mirror.

I’ve seen them steal away and swallow

Anything they can put their fingers on.

Eat. Sleep.

Dream.

Standard

Abused. Ill-treated.

Born into barbed wire boundaries.

Reiterate,

Reiterated

Over and over

How incapable one is

To even make a simple decision.

(Wrong. Wrong again)

To celebrate joyfully,

To make a sound could set fire to surroundings.

Destruction.

Loose track of truth as lies are the padding between

Being reprimanded physically

Or

Verbally.

Blurred lines

And confusion.

(Mock and shame)

How to interact;

Manipulation

False praises and head games.

How to explain

Voice crushed,

Airway blocked.

To whisper brought trembling

To body

And tears to brim

To which people yelled

“Speak up!

What is your problem?”

Old Streets

Standard

Came back to these old streets,

The path feels so natural beneath my feet.

Broken doorways,

They whisper my name.

They know me from before.

Now condemned;

Boarded windows

And graffiti walls.

No going back to

How it was.

Boards creak and walls speak.

They tell me,

“Move on little girl.

We loved you then,

We love you still.

Best be moving on.

Move along.

The ghosts who called you back

Be long gone.

There only remains residual

Energy of things turned to ash

Blowing now

In the wind.

Head East, or North

South or West.

It is best you move along.”
