Breathe

Standard

You make me feel beautiful

You make me feel like I am real
Your eyes look into me
They don’t look right through me
Others see me breathing
When you know I am only holding my breath
Waiting, waiting, waiting to breathe
Your hands reach out and gently touch me
While others go by without even
Noticing
Noticing I am
Waiting, waiting, waiting to breathe

Maybe

Standard

Maybe

You did not know.
Or perhaps you
did not listen
To the true depth of sadness
In her voice.
The exaggerated laugh.

Maybe you felt you had said all there was to say.

Maybe you looked away
From the broken heart in her smile
The silent plea
In her tenderness towards others.
The quiet tears
In the reach of
her fingertips.
And now you’re left
Shaking your head
And wondering
Why
Sometimes even
Angels
Cannot save the flesh and bone
Of a soul
Who longs so desperately
To go home.

Disco Ball

Standard

When I enter

the club

I leave my worries
At the
Door
I’m here to dance
Nothing more.
I’m here to move
My hips
And my feet
To the beat.
No thinking
No words spoken
With these lips
Of mine
Just my body rocking
In time to the rhythm
No wasted breath
Explaining.
Non verbal
communication
Appreciated.
That’s all
In the light
Of the
Disco ball.

2014

Standard
At Midnight
She was tossing
Confetti
in the air.
She was the drunk girl
sobbing
On the park bench.
Alone.
She was the solitaire
Shadow
Stumbling home
In the dark,
In her heels.
The glitter in her hair
Shimmering
By the light of the street lamp.
Her body over overcome
With sorrow.
She was the girl climbing through
The 2nd story window
Because the keys were forgot
And the doors were locked
She was the girl
tending her heart
Because although
It’s the beginning of
The New Year
And blessings abound
Ahead
She had lost
More than one
Sweet
Love
To the
Heavens
This last year
Round.
She took
A slow shaky
Breath.
She
Let the
Knowing
Settle in her heart.
The balance.
The living
The loving
The winning
The losing.
It all means she
Is still
Alive.
